10 Cubic Yards
10 Yard Dumpster Rental in Chicago, IL
Our smallest roll-off, sized right for garage purges, small roofing jobs, and concrete or dirt hauls on tight Chicago lots.
- 10 ydCapacity
- 3 pickup-truck loadsPickup loads
- 1–2 tonsWeight allowance

The 10 yard is the size to call when the job is real but small — a garage that needs to be emptied out, a single-layer roof tear-off, or a load of broken concrete and dirt from a small patio project. It’s our most compact container, which makes it the easiest of the five sizes to fit onto a narrow Chicago driveway or into a tight alley behind a two-flat.
At 14ft long by 7.5ft wide by 3.5ft tall, the 10 yard holds roughly 3 pickup truck loads of debris. That low wall height also makes it easy to load by hand, which matters if you’re tossing in shingles, drywall, or bagged debris without equipment.
The weight allowance on a 10 yard runs 1–2 tons, which is plenty for a mixed load of household junk but worth watching closely if your project is heavy material like concrete, brick, or dirt — those fill the weight limit long before they fill the box.

Why the 10 Yard Works for Small Chicago Jobs
A lot of Chicago properties — bungalows, small two-flats, city lots with narrow side yards — simply don’t have room for a large container. The 10 yard’s compact footprint means it can sit on a standard driveway or in a tight alley behind a garage without blocking the whole path, which is exactly the situation on many Belmont Cragin and Hermosa blocks.
10 Yard vs. 15 Yard — Which Way to Go
If your project is contained to one room, one small job, or a straightforward concrete or dirt haul, the 10 yard is usually enough and keeps the cost down. Step up to the 15 yard once you’re combining projects — say a garage cleanout plus some yard debris — or if you’re not fully sure how much debris you’ll generate. When in doubt, call us; we’d rather size you correctly than have you run out of room mid-project.
What Doesn’t Fit / Weight Considerations
The 10 yard’s 1–2 ton weight allowance is the real limiting factor more often than the volume. A full load of concrete, brick, or dirt can hit that weight cap well before the box looks full — if your job is mostly heavy material, tell us when you book so we can either size up or set expectations on overage charges. Electronics, asbestos-containing material, paints, and other hazardous items never go in any size, including this one.
Typical Rental Period
Most 10 yard rentals run a standard short-term period, which fits how these jobs usually go — a weekend project or a few days of steady work. Let us know if you need it longer; we can adjust the timeline when you book.
Local fit
The 10 yard in Chicago driveways
The 10 yard is a favorite for alley-loaded lots in Belmont Cragin, Hermosa, and North Lawndale, where garages sit off a narrow alley rather than a front driveway. Because its small footprint fits easily on private property — a driveway, garage pad, or yard — most 10 yard rentals never touch the public way and don’t require a CDOT permit at all. If your alley or street is the only option, tell us up front and we’ll handle the permit under Municipal Code of Chicago §10-28-799.
It’s also a solid choice for the older housing stock common across the West Side, where a small remodel or roof job often turns up materials you shouldn’t just toss in the box — older homes sometimes carry asbestos-containing material that needs separate, specialized disposal rather than going in any dumpster.

10 Yard dumpster questions
What size projects is the 10 yard best for?
Small garage or basement cleanouts, single-layer roofing tear-offs, concrete and dirt removal, and small demolition or decluttering jobs.
How many pickup truck loads does a 10 yard hold?
Roughly 3 pickup truck loads of debris.
What’s the weight limit on a 10 yard dumpster?
1–2 tons. Heavy material like concrete, brick, or dirt can hit that limit before the box looks full, so let us know what you’re hauling when you book.
Will a 10 yard fit in my alley or narrow driveway?
In most cases, yes — the 10 yard is our smallest container at 14ft x 7.5ft x 3.5ft, making it the easiest size to fit into tight alley spaces and narrow driveways common on Chicago’s West Side.
Do I need a permit for a 10 yard dumpster?
Not if it’s placed entirely on private property. If it needs to sit in the alley or on the street, Chicago requires a CDOT public way permit, which we can arrange for you.
Is the 10 yard big enough for a whole-house cleanout?
Usually not — a whole-house cleanout typically needs a 20 yard or larger. The 10 yard is better suited to single-room or single-project jobs.
