Sizing a Container to Your Project

A single-room cleanout or a bathroom gut usually fits comfortably in a 15 yard container. A full kitchen remodel, a basement-to-attic purge, or clearing out a home before an estate sale tends to run closer to 20 yards. If you’re doing a whole-house renovation with old cabinetry, flooring, and drywall all coming out at once, 30 yards keeps you from ordering a second container halfway through. We’d rather talk you into the right size on the phone than let you guess and pay for a second delivery.

Driveway, Parking Pad, or Alley — Where It Goes Matters

If the container sits entirely on your own property — driveway, side yard, parking pad — there’s no permit involved and no one to notify. That covers most of the residential drop-offs we do. But a real share of Chicago residential lots, especially in the two-flat and three-flat neighborhoods, load from the alley instead of a street-facing driveway, and in Chicago an alley legally counts as public way, the same as a street or sidewalk. Placement there requires a CDOT dumpster permit. We’ll tell you straight which situation you’re in when we quote the job, and if a permit is needed, we can walk you through it.

What Goes In, What Doesn’t

General household debris, old furniture, flooring, drywall, cabinetry, and yard trimmings are all fair game. Electronics — old TVs, monitors, computer towers — are a different story under Illinois’ e-waste law and need to go to a certified recycler instead of the dumpster.
